Capercaillie
{@name}

Credited with being the major force in bringing Celtic music to the world stage, Capercaillie's unique fusion of Gaelic culture and contemporary sound has always stretched boundaries in the band's quest to keep the music evolving. The band's undoubted success and reputation as one of Scotland's top groups has been built around a line-up of truly outstanding musicians featuring the likes of Donald Shaw on keyboards and accordion and Charlie McKerron on fiddle. But it also helps to have the peerless voice of Karen Matheson, described by Sean Connery as having "a throat that is surely touched by God" at the heart of the band's music.

There have been many milestones for a band that has sold over one million albums worldwide and it's a mighty long way from the dances at Oban High School to performing at the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Baghdad. But the band's greatest achievement has been to mould a central strand of their Gaelic heritage into a fresh, new sound, capable of reaching out to people all over the world.
